Description

Delightful heart-shaped cookies decorated with royal icing, perfect for spreading love on Valentine’s Day.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Royal icing for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and packed brown sugar until smooth and creamy.
  4. Beat in the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract until well blended.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, kneading until a soft dough forms.
  6. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut it into heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
  7. Place the cookies on greased or parchment-lined baking sheets, leaving space for them to spread.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack and then decorate with royal icing. Enjoy your Valentine Heart Cookies!

Notes

Chill the dough if it is too soft to handle, use a piping bag for icing decorations, and feel free to customize spices to your taste. Allow royal icing to dry completely before stacking.
