- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon molasses
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Royal icing for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and packed brown sugar until smooth and creamy.
- Beat in the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract until well blended.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, kneading until a soft dough forms.
- Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut it into heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
- Place the cookies on greased or parchment-lined baking sheets, leaving space for them to spread.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
- Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack and then decorate with royal icing. Enjoy your Valentine Heart Cookies!
Notes
Chill the dough if it is too soft to handle, use a piping bag for icing decorations, and feel free to customize spices to your taste. Allow royal icing to dry completely before stacking.
