Ingredients
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (various colors)
- Icing sugar for decorating
- Various sprinkles and edible decorations
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
- Beat softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy (3-4 minutes).
- Add egg and vanilla extract, beat until well incorporated.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, stirring until well combined into a soft dough.
- Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thick and cut out desired shapes.
- Place cookie shapes on a lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are slightly golden.
- Cool cookies on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Mix icing sugar with a little water for spreading consistency, add food coloring, and decorate once cookies are cool.
Notes
Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing. Pre-measure toppings for a smooth decorating process.
