Description

Delightful Valentine cookies that provide a wonderful opportunity for creative decorating, perfect for sharing with friends and family.


Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • Icing sugar for decorating
  • Various sprinkles and edible decorations


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  3. Beat softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy (3-4 minutes).
  4. Add egg and vanilla extract, beat until well incorporated.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, stirring until well combined into a soft dough.
  6. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  7. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thick and cut out desired shapes.
  8. Place cookie shapes on a lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are slightly golden.
  9. Cool cookies on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Mix icing sugar with a little water for spreading consistency, add food coloring, and decorate once cookies are cool.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing. Pre-measure toppings for a smooth decorating process.
