Description
A simple yet delicious recipe for crispy oven-baked BBQ chicken with just two main ingredients.
Ingredients
- 8-10 chicken thighs and/or drumsticks (bone-in, skin-on)
- 2 cups of your favorite BBQ sauce
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil (or canola oil)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
- Coat the chicken on all sides with olive oil, then season with salt and pepper.
- Place the chicken skin side down on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the chicken from the oven and increase the temperature to 425 degrees F.
- Using a basting brush, coat the top of the chicken with barbecue sauce. Carefully flip the chicken using a spatula.
- Baste the other side of the chicken with the barbecue sauce and return it to the oven for an additional 7 minutes.
- After 7 minutes, remove from the oven, baste the top again with BBQ sauce, and return to the oven for another 7 minutes.
- Repeat the basting process two more times, for a total of three basting sessions, and place the chicken back in the oven for 7 more minutes each time.
- If the chicken isn’t crisp enough, move the oven rack up and broil for about 3-5 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Let the chicken sit for about 5 minutes after cooking before serving.
Notes
For best results, use high-quality BBQ sauce and allow time for basting layers to set.
