Description

A fun twist on classic French onion soup, these savory bites are perfect for cozy gatherings and impressing guests.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter (or vegan substitute)
  • 1 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth for vegetarian)
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves (or Italian seasoning)
  • 1 package crescent roll dough
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese (or any melting cheese or vegan cheese)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook for about 15-20 minutes until soft and caramelized.
  2. Pour in the broth, add vinegar and thyme, stir to combine and let simmer for another 5-10 minutes.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Unroll the crescent roll dough and cut it into squares for your muffin tin.
  5. Press each square of dough into the greased muffin tin, fill with onion mixture, and top with Gruyère cheese.
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes before removing from the muffin tin and serve warm.

Notes

For better caramelization, cook the onions on low heat. These bites can be assembled ahead of time and frozen for later baking.
