Description

A creamy and rich comfort food that elevates traditional mac and cheese with smoked Gouda and sharp cheddar.


Ingredients

  • 12 oz elbow macaroni or cavatappi pasta
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups milk
  • 2 cups smoked Gouda cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs (optional for topping)


Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Whisk in the flour and stir for about 1 minute to create a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the smoked Gouda, cheddar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until cheeses are melted and smooth.
  6. Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked pasta and mix well.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Pour the mac and cheese into a baking dish, topping with bread crumbs if desired.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.

Notes

For a vegan version, use plant-based cheeses and unsweetened plant milk.
