Description
An indulgent and comforting potato bake featuring layers of tender potatoes and a creamy cheese sauce.
Ingredients
- 3 lbs russet or Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chives for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, then add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
- Stir in the heavy cream and milk, season with salt and pepper, and bring to a simmer.
- In a large baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let cool for a few minutes, then garnish with chopped chives before serving.
Notes
Choose heaven for your potatoes and slice them evenly for uniform cooking. Add different cheeses or vegetables for variations.
