Description

An indulgent and comforting potato bake featuring layers of tender potatoes and a creamy cheese sauce.

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs russet or Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chives for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, then add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the heavy cream and milk, season with salt and pepper, and bring to a simmer.
  4. In a large baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 30 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes, then garnish with chopped chives before serving.

Notes

Choose heaven for your potatoes and slice them evenly for uniform cooking. Add different cheeses or vegetables for variations.
