Description

Delightful cookies combining the rich flavors of chocolate with the festive spirit of red velvet.


Ingredients

  • 7 tbsp butter (salted or unsalted, softened)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/4 tsp red food coloring gel
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup red sanding sugar
  • 18 Hershey chocolate kisses


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until smooth.
  3. Add the egg yolk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring gel. Mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually add in the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt; mix until the flour mixture disappears.
  5. Scoop out 18 equally sized cookie dough balls and roll them in red sanding sugar.
  6. Place cookie balls on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
  7. Press a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie immediately after removing them from the oven.
  8. Cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

Chill the dough if it’s too sticky. Don’t overbake for soft cookies.
