Delmonico Potatoes are a rich and creamy side dish featuring layers of thinly sliced potatoes, cheddar cheese, and a savory cream mixture, perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
- 4 medium potatoes
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup chopped onions
- 1/4 cup butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Paprika for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Peel and slice the potatoes into thin rounds.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the potato slices.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter, then sauté the onions until translucent.
- Add the heavy cream and season with salt and pepper; stir to combine.
- Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes in the dish.
- Add the remaining potato slices and top with the rest of the cream mixture.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top and dust with paprika.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding garlic or other herbs to the cream mixture. This dish can be prepared a day in advance and baked on the serving day.
