Description

Classic Gingerbread Men are delightful cookies that evoke festive cheer, making them a beloved holiday treat for family bonding and sweet enjoyment.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup unsulfured molasses
  • Royal icing for decoration

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  2. In another large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter and brown sugar until fluffy and light in color.
  3. Add the egg and molasses to the butter mixture, mixing well to combine.
  4. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until everything is well combined.
  5. Divide the dough into two equal disks, wrap them in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least two hours.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.
  7. Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use a gingerbread man cookie cutter to cut out shapes.
  8. Place the cut-out cookies on the prepared baking sheets, ensuring they have sufficient space in between.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the cookies are firm and lightly browned.
  10. Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack before decorating them with royal icing.

Notes

Chill the dough for better shaping. Use fresh spices for enhanced flavor and avoid overbaking.
