A hearty and flavorful Italian classic, this rich Bolognese sauce is perfect for family dinners and special occasions.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup red wine (optional; replace with broth if desired)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 cup milk
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the diced onion, carrots, and celery; sauté until the vegetables are soft, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef and pork; cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks – about 8-10 minutes.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add the tomato paste, followed by the red wine if using.
- Season with salt, black pepper, oregano, and basil; stir well to combine all ingredients.
- Let the sauce simmer on low heat for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the milk and let simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
- Serve over your favorite pasta, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
