Description

A hearty and flavorful Italian classic, this rich Bolognese sauce is perfect for family dinners and special occasions.


Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup red wine (optional; replace with broth if desired)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)


Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced onion, carrots, and celery; sauté until the vegetables are soft, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the ground beef and pork; cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks – about 8-10 minutes.
  5. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add the tomato paste, followed by the red wine if using.
  6. Season with salt, black pepper, oregano, and basil; stir well to combine all ingredients.
  7. Let the sauce simmer on low heat for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Add the milk and let simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
  9. Serve over your favorite pasta, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
